Aja Volkman is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She is the lead singer of indie rock band Nico Vega. She has also been a member of indie rock duo Egyptian, with her husband, singer and songwriter Dan Reynolds.
Aja is the daughter of Rogene Manas, an artist, and James Volkman. Her father has German and English ancestry. Her mother is of half Spanish and half Italian descent. Aja and Dan have four children.
Aja’s paternal grandfather was William Edward Volkman (the son of Rhienhardt Henry Volkman and Rosalin Maud Carlyon). Rhienhardt was of German descent, and was the son of William T. Volkman and Wilhemina Kandt. Rosalin was English.
Aja’s paternal grandmother was Anna Faye Barngrover (the daughter of Otis Barngrover and Alva Hazel Brown). Anna was born in Kansas. Otis was the son of William M. Barngrover and Cora Elizabeth Sponseller. Alva was the daughter of Sam Brown and Sarah.
Aja’s maternal grandfather was Pedro Garcia “Pete” Manas (the son of Pedro Garcia Manas and Rosa “Rosie” Garcia). Aja’s grandfather Pedro was born in California, to Spanish parents.
